It was expected to be a rebuilding season for Raft River under first year Head Coach Cody Powers last time around and that is exactly what it was. Now the Trojans hope to string together some wins to get things heading back in the right direction after winning 17 games just two years ago.

While Raft River went just 2-18 last season, the team played hard on defense but fell victim to allowing opponents too many second chances. It's really the offensive side of things where improvement needs to come.

All-Conference Honorable Mention returners Holly Ward and Mandi Carpenter are a couple of the key pieces, with both being relied on for a scoring boost.

"We’ll be versatile this season," said Powers. "We feel like we have girls that we can move around and play at different positions that will be a big help for us this season."

Only once did the Trojans get to 40 points last year, so the newcomers that enter the varsity level should see plenty of opportunities to try to help the team get past that total to stay more competitive in games.

"We struggled to score points last season, but with some new girls coming in and tweaking a few things on the offensive end, we should get some better looks," said Powers.

Whenever you look at a rebuilding project it is more important to look at things on a smaller scale level, rather than on the grand scheme of things with the win-loss record.

"Our record from last season doesn’t show it, but we feel like we saw a lot of good things from girls last season," said Powers. "The girls worked hard this offseason to get better too. If the girls keep working hard, we should be much improved and that would be exciting for us as a program. To be improved and more competitive."

A big focus for Raft River is to play physical, especially when it comes to rebounding.

With some more size and the newcomers, especially sophomore forward Audah Jones, expect an improved effort on the glass.

"We feel like we have some girls that we’ve added into the mix this season that can rebound the ball," said Powers. "We gave up too many offensive rebounds last season that hurt us. Rebounding and giving teams fewer opportunities should help us out a lot this year."

Expect a competitive effort on a nightly basis from Raft River as they continue to head back in the right direction under the guidance of Powers on the sideline.
