After spending years in the 4A classification, Kuna has made jump to 5A and with it comes a whole new set of challenges.

No longer will the Kavemen have to play 4A powers like Bishop Kelley and Middleton. Instead, they will play teams such as defending 5A state champion Mountain View, and state-runner up Centennial.

In 5A, schools are deeper, girls are bigger and schedules are tougher.

That was no problem for the Kavemen last season, as they went 2-0 vs. 5A opponents – a 53-37 thumping of Columbia and a 49-41 win over Madison.

To top that, Kuna returns point guard Meghan Holloman, who was First Team All-SIC last season as a sophomore.

Holloman has started all but three games her during her Kuna career and has averaged 13 points-per game and shoots over 80% from the free throw line. Since Holloman enrolled at Kuna, the Kavemen have to missed the state tournament.

But that was also with the help of four-year starter Allison Law, who is now playing for the College of Idaho.

Law averaged 15 point-per contest last season and shot over 70% from the line.

The Law-Holloman duo was a force to be reckoned with the last two season, as the Kavemen punched two consecutive state tournament bids after a 20-year absence.

Entering his fifth season, head coach Alex Jensen is tasked with piecing together a puzzle that no longer has one of its best pieces.

His plan? Out think, out work and out play each opponent for 32 minutes at a time.

Helping him accomplish this task are seniors Madi Thurston Ashlyn Van Campen. Both are returning starters, Thurston to the wing and Van Campen to the post.

Led by Holloman, the offense will need to play faster and shoot better while the defense will need to be aggressive and play smarter.
